UOS20: NAMES
February 7th, 2020
Friday, 7–10pm
321 Canal Street, New York City
Following its New York Fashion Week debut in Spring 2019, The University of Salford, Manchester UK, is returning to introduce a new fleet of up-and-coming designers to New York City’s fashion landscape. With its foresight to realise budding talent, NAMES joins forces with Salford to create a stage for breakout industry talent.
This season, NAMES invites you to look beneath surface and expose hidden truths. Instead of patching and mending the sting of past rejections and tearful moments in vain attempts to conceal battle scars, NAMES rips off the band-aid. It’s not about slowly picking plaster corners — it’s breaking down barriers, diminishing fear and laying bare wounds as badges of excellence to let them heal.
Combining aesthetic, artistic and technical brilliance, The University of Salford’s graduate students will descend upon the fashion capital to present their designs that stretch the limits of their imaginations. NAMES provides an exclusive first look at 50 different looks by 5 designers.
Located in the heart of the City at the stunning Pier 59 Studio, NAMES casts a spotlight on a new generation of emerging designers to keep an eye on. NAMES’ makeup and hair concepts are masterminded by the Academy of Freelance Makeup, Michelle Webb and Brendan O’Sullivan.
The University of Salford was ranked 4 th in the Guardian’s UK University League Tables of 2019. As a six-time winner of the British Fashion Council Portfolio Award for the best graduate design work, it nurtures individual creativity and innovative talent with established global industry links. Salford graduates have gone on to secure top-level industry connections across the globe, with the likes of John Lewis, Levi’s, Max Mara and More.
